Paper Laboratory

This laboratory was established in 1981. It is responsible for the conservation of objects made of a variety of materials and with different demands, such as: watercolours, oil paintings on paper, prints, drawings in pencil, charcoal and pastels, posters, archival material, architectural drawings, books, paper toys, and objects of leather and parchment.

In 2004, the laboratory was engaged in the conservation and study of the paper objects to be displayed in the Islamic Collection on the occasion of their exhibition in the Benaki’s new Museum of Islamic Art. At the same time, it became more intensively involved in the conservation and storage of the N. Hadjikyriakos-Ghika Collection as part of the works entailed in the remodeling and transfer of the Art Gallery to the building on Kriezotou Street.
